# Captain’s Log: Last Sentinel
## Day 1: The Backstory
We watched Last Sentinel today, a sci-fi thriller set in the year 2063, when climate change has flooded most of the Earth and left only two continents at war. The film follows a platoon of soldiers who are stationed on an old military base in the middle of the ocean, waiting for relief or attack. It is placed in between the two countries equipped with a nuclear warhead. The backstory was well thought out and gave a sense of the bleak and desperate situation the characters were in. The film also showed how the crew had different opinions and motivations, creating conflict and tension among them.
## Day 2: The Cast
The actors were well casted and fit their individual roles well. Kate Bosworth played Cassidy, the medic and the only female on the base. She was compassionate and caring, but also strong and resourceful. Lucien Laviscount played Sullivan, the youngest and most optimistic of the crew. He was eager to escape and find a better life, but also loyal and brave. Martin McCann played Baines, the engineer and the most cynical of the group. He was sarcastic and pessimistic, but also smart and skilled. Thomas Kretschmann played Hendrichs, the commander and the most paranoid of the crew. He was authoritative and ruthless, but also protective and patriotic.
## Day 3: The Positives
The movie was able to tell a story without a large budget or high paid actors. The film relied on the performances of the four main actors and the claustrophobic setting of the base to create a sense of isolation and suspense. The film also used some effective visual effects to show the stormy weather and the ocean environment. The film had some interesting twists and turns that kept us engaged and curious. The communication methods to the outside where arcanic but believable.
## Day 4: The Negatives
The movie had too much story crammed into a movie. This would have been a great series. The film tried to explore too many themes and subplots, such as trust, betrayal, survival, identity, memory, loyalty, etc. Some of them were not fully developed or resolved, leaving me unsatisfied or confused. Also the city sold the park and ride to a private company. Now when we go to the theatre weโll either need to pay 20โฌ more or look for different parking. The character reveal at the end was too predictable. One character was given overly negative traits, while another was given overly positive traits. A switch at the end was predictable. There was no believable explanation why the bomb was placed there or how it could be defused.
## Day 5: The Conclusion
Last Sentinel is a perfect movie for a viewer who loves character arcs and the interactions between them. The film has a strong cast and a compelling premise that explores human nature in extreme circumstances. However, the film also has some flaws that prevent it from being a great movie. The film has too many loose ends and clichรฉs that weaken its impact and originality. Last Sentinel is a good movie, but not a great one. If you love space station movies, this one is for you.
