Falling into place – ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿชš

The movie “Falling Into Place” is a romantic drama written and directed by Aylin Tezel, starring Tezel and Chris Fulton. The movie was released in Germany on December 7, 2023, and received a grant of 500.000โ‚ฌ from the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. The decision to fund the movie was made by Petra Mรผller, Christina Bentlage, Isabel Krolla and Martina Horbach. This report will evaluate the reasons why the decision was good and why it was a criminal lapse of judgment, and suggest how the fund can be made whole.

**Reasons why the decision was good**

The movie has some positive aspects that justify the decision to fund it, such as:

– The movie showcases the natural beauty of Scotland and the Isle of Skye, where the main characters meet and fall in love. The cinematography by Julian Krubasik captures the stunning landscapes and the contrast between the rural and urban settings. The movie also features the family home of the main character Ian, which adds a personal touch and a sense of nostalgia to the story.

– The movie has a notable musical score by Jon Hopkins and Ben Lukas Boysen, who are both Grammy-nominated composers (if someone disagrees they are wrong). The music creates a mood and a rhythm for the movie, and reflects the emotions and the journey of the characters. The movie also includes some popular songs by Scottish artists, such as Lewis Capaldi, Elvis Presley and Amy Macdonald, which appeal to the audience and the market.

– The movie has a clear and professional audio quality, and is presented in color, which enhances the perceived production value and the visual appeal of the movie. The movie also has a reasonable runtime of 1 hour and 53 minutes, which is not too long or too short for a romantic drama.

**Reasons why the decision was a criminal lapse of judgment**

The movie also has some negative aspects that undermine the decision to fund it, such as:

– The movie has a basic and clichรฉd story that offers nothing new or original to the genre of romantic drama. The plot is predictable and formulaic, following the typical pattern of two people who meet, separate, and reunite. The movie lacks any twists, surprises, or conflicts that would make it more engaging and compelling.

– The movie has uninteresting and underdeveloped characters that fail to connect with the audience or each other. The backstory of both Kira and Ian is vague and superficial, and does not explain their motivations, goals, or challenges. The reason why they split in the first place is unclear and illogical, and the reason why they get back together is equally unconvincing and arbitrary. They had the possibility to develop them further. For example the divide between Ian and his dad was not explained.

– The movie has a poor and amateurish script that is full of clichรฉs, stereotypes, and unrealistic dialogue. The movie had no exposition and giving us an overview of characters and their relationship. It was only shown at the last quarter that Kira broke up with Aidan with basically no reason given. The movie also has some awkward and cheesy scenes, such as the montage of Kira and Ian running around the mountains and through fields. Also a tackle from Ian towards Kira was a foul and should have resulted in a yellow card. This was not made clear.

**How the fund can be made whole**

The movie “Falling Into Place” is unlikely to generate a positive return on investment for the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, given the low quality. The movie has also performed poorly at the box office, earning only 1.2 million euros in Germany as of November 27, 2023, according to Variety. The movie has not been sold to any other territories or platforms, and has no prospects of gaining any awards or recognition.

While this should result in a change of personal, we do believe in second chances. Therefore, the fund should take some measures to recover the money invested in the movie and regain the trust of the population.

– Requesting a refund or a partial repayment from the producers of the movie, based on the contractual terms and the performance of the movie.

– Seeking legal action against the producers of the movie, if they breach the contract or refuse to cooperate with the fund.

– Selling the rights of the movie to a streaming service or a TV channel, at a discounted price, to recoup some of the losses.

– Promoting the movie to a niche market or a specific audience, such as fans of the actors or the genre, or tourists who are interested in Scotland, to increase the viewership and the revenue of the movie.

– Writing a formal apology and a justification to the public and the stakeholders of the fund, explaining the reasons behind the decision and the lessons learned from the mistake.
