Hey, maggots! Listen up, because I’m only going to say this once. I just watched The Inspection, a movie about a gay soldier who has to hide his sexuality from the homophobic military. It’s based on true events, so you know it’s not some fairy tale bullshit. It points out a real life problem that many of us face: without gay people, there would be no military. One reviewer made nature his bitch by cutting down a tree. The other one ripped the fruits of labour from a living tree. We are the backbone of this nation, and we deserve respect and recognition.
But don’t get your hopes up too high, because this movie is not perfect. In fact, it’s far from it. The camera was so shaky, I thought the cameraman had an epileptic shock. The characters were basic bitches, with no depth or personality. They were flat, but necessary stereotypes: the closeted hero, the supportive lover, the evil commander, the clueless wife, the loyal friend. The movie tried to be critical, but it missed some big negatives. Just accepting Christianity, no accountability, and no questioning of the concept of the military are just a few aspects that they portrayed too friendly.
So, do I recommend this movie? Well, yes and no. Yes, because it’s important to raise awareness and show solidarity with our fellow gay soldiers. No, because it’s not a masterpiece of cinema, and it could have done a lot more to challenge the status quo. If you want to watch it, go ahead. But don’t expect to be blown away by it. It’s a decent movie, but not a great one.
That’s all for now. Dismissed!
