Thread: Movie Support Chat – Robert’s Tripods Issue

Online Support:

Hi Robert! Welcome back to the Tripod & Accessories Support Chat. Need help with something else?

Robert:

Yeah, I finished my movie Here. Thought you’d like to know how it turned out, since you convinced me to shoot it mostly locked off.

Online Support:

Oh, I’ve heard about it. A 99% locked-off movie is bold, Robert. How’s the feedback been?

Robert:

Mixed. I think it worked, but some people don’t get it. You want a review?

Online Support:

Hit me with it.

Robert:

Positives:

1.People loved the concept—innovative, they called it. A ā€œ99% locked-off movieā€ apparently blew some minds.

Online Support:

Of course! That’s what happens when you embrace the tripod-only life. Limitations breed innovation, Robert. Minimalism is in.

Robert:

2. The storylines and characters? Nailed it. Everyone says the way they weave together is compelling, especially with the quadrant transitions.

Online Support:

Ah, the quadrant transitions—saw that in the trailer. Brilliant work. A little creativity can go a long way, huh?

Robert:

3. The relationship between Margaret and her husband? People found it really emotional, especially when she revealed her dementia.

Online Support:

That’s beautiful, Robert. Tripods can’t do all the heavy lifting—you brought the emotion. Maybe I’ll cry next time I set one up.

Robert:

4. Oh, and it’s apparently funny? I wasn’t aiming for slapstick, but some parts had the audience laughing.

Online Support:

Comedy is tough. If you got laughs without meaning to, you’re ahead of the game. Tripod comedy is a niche genre—you might’ve just invented it.

Robert:

Negatives

1.Some transitions were inconsistent. Like, people noticed objects randomly spawning between storylines.

Online Support:

Oof, continuity is tricky with all those storylines. Maybe you needed…what’s the word? Heads. You know, to pan smoothly between scenes?

Robert:

We’re NOT doing this again.

Online Support:

Just saying.

Robert:

2. The War of Independence subplot was a flop. Too disconnected, apparently. Franklin’s wig got more attention than the plot.

Online Support:

Honestly, what was Franklin doing there? Not even a dolly shot could save that.

Robert:

3. People said Tom Hanks can’t convincingly play a young person anymore. It’s tough to cast the same character at different ages, but…yeah.

Online Support:

Hanks is a legend, but yeah, CGI and de-aging only get you so far. Should’ve leaned into the locked-off aesthetic and done it with shadows or reflections. Would’ve been very artsy.

Robert:

4. Finally, some backlash for adding a black family storyline instead of Richard’s and Margaret’s daughter. Richard could have given the house to his daughter and her family. This would complete another entire life lived in the same place.

Online Support:

Hmm. That’s a tough one. Keeping the family connection would have been a nicer touch. Representation is important, but a more consistent movie surpasses that. Something to consider for the next film, Robert.

Robert:

So, what’s your overall take?

Online Support:

Honestly, Robert, you made something bold. People laughed, you challenged them and then they argued about it. That’s cinema, tripod or not. Sure, some things didn’t work, but Here proves you don’t need heads to be ahead of the game.

Robert:

…Thanks, I guess.

Online Support:

Anytime. And remember, next time you need accessories, like heads for pans, we’ve got you.
